Digital Soil Mapping Training in Jeonju, Korea

Brendan Malone and Budiman Minasny recently conducted a 2-day digital soil mapping training at the Rural Development Agency (RDA) Headquarter in JeonJu, S. Korea, 17-18 October 2017.

The training is part o fthe research collaboration between National Institute of Agricultural Sciences and the University of Sydney. It is also supported by the Australia Korea Foundation.

The 2 days training follow the Digital Soil Mapping with R textbook providing the fundamental of Digital Soil Mapping to Korean Scientists and students.

RDA Korea already has a sophisticated soil information system, and this workshop aims to equip staff and scientists with flexibility on working with detailed mapping. The workshop was opened by Dr Suk Yong Hong, chief of the Soil Survey Division at RDA, and attended by 20 staff. Brendan Malone went through the nuts and bolts of digital soil mapping from preparing data, raster covariates, fitting a model and generating soil maps. Enthusiasms are high and we expect to see more DSM products coming out of Korea soon.
